He was the previous Chairman of Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care -Faculty of Medicine, The University of Jordan and is the President of The Jordanian Society of Anesthesia Intensive Care and Pain Management. He is a researcher of more than 50 international publications and reviewer for medical journals in Jordan and outside.

He is currently the head of anesthesia department and director of Surgical Services in University Hospital Sharjah, UAE. He is a professor of anesthesia at Faculty of medicine, University of Mansoura, Egypt and an adjunct professor of clinical sciences in college of medicine, University of Sharjah. Dr. Shorrab has been practicing medicine since 1989 after graduating from Mansoura University in Egypt. He continued his post graduate work in Anesthesiology and went on to complete his Master in Anesthesiology and Surgical Intensive Care from the same university followed by the Doctorate degree in the same field through joint supervision in Mansoura University Hospitals and in Guy’s Hospital, London, UK. He is also holding Diploma of clinical medical nutrition from the European Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (ESPEN) and a Master degree in Leadership in Health Professions Education from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland RCSI. He published in various medical journals and led many training courses in management of difficult airways, vascular access and procedural sedation. He is also a peer reviewer for many international journals. As a professor of anesthesia and clinical sciences in University of Mansoura (Egypt) and University of Sharjah (UAE), he has mentored and supervised many postgraduate students for Master and Doctorate degrees.

His research interests include strategies of avoiding Inadvertent Perioperative Hypothermia (IPH), electronic preoperative assessment (ePAQ-PO) & processed EEG monitoring in ITU and anaesthesia. He has published widely on these subjects. He is a senior examiner for the final FRCA exam at the Royal College of Anaesthetists of GB&I. He was a member of the NICE development groups that issued the IPH guidelines (NICE 2008, 2016) and authored published guidance on depth of anaesthesia monitoring in 2012. He is a past president of the Neuroanaesthesia and Critical Care Society, (NACCS) UK. He is a member of a Key Opinion Leader group and chaired a World Congress on Perioperative Temperature Management in Amersfoort, Netherlands in 2024. He has given numerous invited lectures at scientific meetings on perioperative temperature management both in Europe, Africa, India and Japan, with excellent feedback from participants. He has been a foundational figure in developing high-volume cardiovascular anesthesia and intensive care units in Iran and the UAE. Dr Mohammad has an extensive academic and professional background, serving as a committee member for the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologists and Intensive Care (EACTAIC). He is TEE Certified and reaccredited by the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), and holds TTE certification from Sonography Canada. Ralf Krage is an Associate Professor of Anesthesia at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) and Consultant Anesthesiologist at Mediclinic in Dubai, UAE. He is also the director of the KHMSC simulation center in Dubai. From 2007 until 2019 he was a Consultant Anesthesiologist and Residency Program Director at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Between 2019 – 2021 he served as Head of Department of Anesthesia, Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine in Neuburg, Germany. His special interests focus on advancing medical education through simulation-based learning, Human Factor issues and airway management training. He has a record of numerous invited presentations on international conferences on Human Factors, patient safety, simulation-based learning and airway management. Since the early 2000's he is promoting simulation-based learning, serving as director of two major simulation centers in Germany and the Netherlands. He is Past President of SESAM (Society for Simulation in Europe) after serving as president between 2013-2015 (EC member 2011-2017) and was vice-president of the DSSH 2011-2016 (Dutch society for Simulation in Healthcare). For the GNSH association (Global network for Simulation in Healthcare) he served as a board member from 2015-2019. He joined the GNSH board again in 2024. He is the initiator of the scientific journal ‘Advances in Simulation’ and serves on the international Advisory Board. Ralf is an international partner and board member (2017-2020) of the EUSIM group since 2007 and served on numerous instructor courses (inter)nationally as faculty and course director. Also he is an examiner for the European Diploma of Anesthesiology and Intensive care (EDAIC) of the European Anesthesia Society (ESAIC).

He graduated and worked at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin for more than 20 years, after which he took up the position of Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen of Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2022. His clinical and scientific focus is on the mechanisms and prevention of ventilator-induced lung injury. In collaboration with partners from the fields of biophysics, engineering and industry, he has been working on the development of automated physiological closed-loop systems for protective ventilation and has conceived of rule-based and AI-supported automated ventilation.
